This does a good job creating the atmosphere of the planet. A bit of the unknown and unsettling, and I can see it working great as a sci-fi game level. Very ambient

But where it falls I'm afraid is that it may not tell the story of the picture so much. It doesn't do much about what the pilot may be thinking or feeling among the planet. It doesn't give the sense of despair that the pilot may be thinking, or the acceptance of inevitable death. It might hurt your score, it might not. I'll leave that up to RealFaction.

By itself it isn't a bad ambient piece. The mixing is decent and brings along a cool feeling with it.

Kalviter responds:

Thanks for the feedback! I do tend towards pretty ambient production so I'm not surprised this is how it ended up, I'm glad it gets across the planet atmosphere well. It's a shame about the pilot's story not coming through as well as I'd like, though I'll admit I'm not too sure on how to do that better. Any tips you have would be appreciated!

I like you.

I can see this being elevator music, or part of some nature instructional video.

Ceevro responds:

AAAAH! I have just spent the afternoon making Muzak! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I'm highly impressed. I was not expecting this from you. What I really is that you kept it for the most part in one key. Normally not a great thing to do, but considering where this guy would be coming from (likely from Northern Scotland given the attire and facial features) there would likely be some bagpipe influence with the cord structure. I'd wager it's in the key of D just on that point alone.

You get the flavor of the setting of the picture, and more impressively, you mixed his background into the mix as well. And your skills have improved since the last time I paid attention to you last.

You did a great jorb out there

Ceevro responds:

C# is the key, actually. Tuned to DADGAD, then a half-step down.

I love the black-and-white silent film feel it has.

You doing any contests this year? *Inquisitive glare*

SoundChris responds:

Thanks a lot man! Its funny that so many people told me this would remind them of a black-white vintage mnovie. In fact its just the late romantic style as you would have heared it in the late 19th century ;)

Well i will enter the NGADM this year and now i really wanna know it. Then i am participating in the Marvin Hamlisch Film Scoring Contest for emerging composers, maybe Transatlantyk and probably the Oticon one - depends on how much time i will have next to my law fulltime job and my time-consuming efforts to work on my doctor´s degree. But i already got quite a lot of plans :)

Thanks for leaving your thoughts here and all the best,
Chris

This sounds like an excellent intro into the next great Protomen album (whenever they decide to do that)

8-bitheroes responds:

Thanks dude.

Ah

Good to hear from you again. I like the style of this too. Not what I would expect from you, but I'm quite ok with this. With how it's bright and chill and just lets you sink into a feeling close to going to bed at night.

Just wanted to say it's good to hear you putting out stuff.

Pandasticality responds:

Hey Spadezer, i got a few projects under my sleeve right now n__n more to come soon, i don't know why but this type of Future Bass music has kinda appealed to me, its so good xD hah, anyway, thank you for the review! <3

You two need to do a full song together.

You guys don't realize how cool this sounds, especially if you did something similar to Aurora Dawn.

Cool mic too. sounds great.

Pretty top notch stuff. For some reason, and I'm not sure exactly why, this makes me think that if they remade the Dragon Bruce Lee story from the Super Nintendo that the music would sound like this. I remember liking it a lot.

ForgottenDawn responds:

Hey thanks! I've never heard of that game before, I should check it out.

Aw Yeah!!!!

I like this a lot. It's like 90's video game synths with some funky jazz (unfortunately that's all I can think up for genres). That's besides the point though. I like what you're doing with this. It definitely highlights your abilities with composition and it's a bit farther than where you've come from. The mixing is quite solid too. I'd say with this piece you have a good fighting chance to continue on. I wouldn't say it's a solid chance, I'm not going to pick this apart like the judges will, but at least be proud of this piece. Not many people will be able to put something like this together on their own.

Keep life jazzy!

Another year, another NGADM! Glad to see you again :D

=> 90's video game synths =>

Haha, figures you'd like that :P

=> + jazz =>

Thanks for the genre suggestion! That sounds about right.

=> mixing is quite solid =>

Yay! Mixing is something I haven't been *quite* up to par with in comparison to my competition.

=> a chance =>

Thanks! It means a lot to hear that from you. :D To be honest though, I think even saying that I have a good fighting chance is stretching it when you listen to my competition T.T I honestly wouldn't be surprised if JacobCadmus, JustinOfSuburbia, and Jabicho (am I encroaching upon the J group?) take the top three spots in any order. My personal goal is to beat a score of 7.5, since that's the score I got for my piece in the NGAUC. :P

=> Keep life jazzy! =>

You know it ;)

Thanks for dropping by and leaving a review! It's a shame you couldn't compete this year, I was looking forward to those new-wave game vibes :P But hey, now that you're here, why not stick around and enjoy the rest of the competition while you can? :D

You did beautiful job with the mixing. I like the atmospheric feel especially at the beginning. I thought for a second I was listening to johnfn stuff. You can really put out some emotional pieces with stuff like this. I can't tell where the rough changes are (unless you intended it to be longer than 04:51).

Lovely

Do you like dubs? Do you like Wubs? I've got them in SPADES! Sprinkled in is some actual melodic content so you don't think I'm a hype junkie
